Nadar Mahajana Sangam S. Vellaichamy Nadar College, Nagamalai was established in 1965. In the year 1970 commerce education commenced with Dr. C. Balasubbiah as Head of the Department. Initially B.Com course was taught and later B.Com regular, B.Com self finance courses B.Com CA, B.Com (IT). B.com (Tamil Medium) courses started. Now the commerce department is in the 50th year.
Under the initiative of Dr. Prof. K. Natarajan and under the able guidance and support of Dr. Perrys P. Mahendravel, a Commerce Alumni and Secretary & Correspondent of the college and Prof. V. Thilagarajan, a Commerce Alumni meet was held on 29.8.2010.
To take care of the financial need for education of future generation of needy Commerce Alumni of NMSSVN College, it was decided to form a trust.
Accordingly a trust by name NMSSVN College Commerce Alumni Trust - SVN-COMAT - was registered on 30.12.2010 with the main objects as below:
The name of the trust shall be NADAR MAHAJANA SANGAM S.VELLAICHAMY NADAR COLLEGE COMMERCE Alumni TRUST. In short it shall be SVN-COMAT.
- To create brotherhood amongst the Alumni and present Commerce students of NMSSVN College, Nagamalai, Madurai.
- To provide assistance and aid for the students of the needy children and grand and great grand children of Alumni Commerce students of NMSSVN COLLEGE, Nagamalai, Madurai irrespective of course, institution, caste, creed, community and religion and to assist other needy students of NMSSVN College.
- To create a Corpus Fund to carry out the vision of the Founders.
- To work for the upliftment of the future generation of the Commerce students.
- To do all such acts as may be incidental to and in furtherance of the above objects for the benefit of the future generation of the commerce students of NMSSVN College, Madurai at large.
- To enhance the image of NMSSVN College, Nagamalai, Madurai.
- The above objects reflects the initial intention of the Trust Further additions/developments/ adoptions are anticipated with the passage of time.
